This charming European hotel is very close to SF Bay with only about sixty rooms. A small portion of the rooms feature great views. The hotel is popular with business travelers and vacationers for ambience and service. The hotel includes a continental breakfast and fitness facility. Towncars can shuttle you to your morning appointments.

The location is close to the Giants new Pac Bell park, the waterfront, SOMA net companies, and the Bay Bridge. There are some great exclusive restaurants very close by including Boulevard, One Market, Gordon Biersch, and a number of upscale Asian restaurants. Very convenient location to the Financial District and SOMA dot com companies.

Linda writes, "This August I stayed at the Hotel Griffon with my husband and 11 year old son. This was a pleasure trip and at $170. a night, I was pleased. We stayed a week, we had an inside room with a sectional sofa that my son slept on and it worked fine. I loved the place.

First of all, Jennifer at the front desk was very helpful, I called her before I got there and she suggested the room we got and answered all of my questions, so when I arrived I felt like I already knew her.

The location was terrific. One side is on the Embarcadero, great view, nice walk. It's a 10 minute walk to the bus lines, cable cars, subway. It was very convenient. The rooms were small (actually ours was one of the bigger rooms), but very nice. It's a nonsmoking hotel, so I took advantage of the fire escape with the great view of the bay.

The breakfast in the morning really was continental. It reminded me of France. The doors were open to the outside and it was cool in the mornings. Just like France in May, no air conditioning and around 60 degrees. The coffee was excellent, it was nice and strong.

There is a new YMCA next door and free passes are included in your room rate. That was very nice for my husband who works out everyday, and my son got a chance to swim.

I really enjoyed my stay. From the staff, to the location, to the coffee, I loved the Hotel Griffon. It's not a kid hotel, mine was the only one I saw, but they didn't have a problem with him and he was old enough not to act like a monkey. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. I'd give it four stars."

L.S. writes, "Just came back from a business trip to San Fran and I stayed in the Financial District at the Hotel Griffon. It is a nice small hotel with a good restaurant inside. A little pricey for my own budget - but nice for a business trip. The style was a little European in my opinion and the bed was SO comfortable. They have a continental breakfast in the morning. I really liked a restaurant called the Gordon Biersch brewery on the Embarcadero near the hotel. It has a nice view of the bay and the Crab BLT is really good. Sit outside, have that along with a pint of their beer and it makes for a really nice lunch."
