Best Western Americania

121 Seventh Street between Howard and Mission
The renovated Best Western Americania is a fun, hip hotel that captures the spirit of the mid-century with a touch of retro styling. Understated references to classic American pastimes and pop-culture create a San Francisco hotel experience well suited for families as well as business travelers.

The Best Western Americania is a 143-room San Francisco boutique hotel with amusing and fun amenities. Each guestroom features playful, retro-style furnishings and board games.  Rates start at $99; parking is $20/night.  On site fitness facility, outdoor heated pool and free Wi-Fi.

N. writes, "...This hotel was perfect for us in many ways but also had a couple of drawbacks. The staff couldn't have been more helpful during our visit and everyone was more than friendly. They provided information about sites to see and events to take part in. We also heard them speaking to guests in four different languages while we were there.

We wouldn't recommend the hotel restaurant based on either quality or price. One nice feature the hotel provided was the covered parking. Many of the hotels in San Francisco either don't offer parking or charge incredibly high prices for it. Another treat was the swimming pool, which like everything else in the hotel was meticulously clean and tidy. A most noticeable surprise was how quiet the room was at night.

Also, the BART subway and MUNI bus stops are only 2 blocks away on Market. This brings up the only bad part about staying at the Americania. The Americania is located near 6th Street where a large number of homeless people and addicts tend to congregate. During the day it wasn't an issue to walk north toward Union Square but we didn't attempt it during the evening. All told we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Americania but would recommend using a taxi to reach a better neighborhood before heading out on foot..."

Robyn writes, "After I checked in and saw the room, I immediately went and booked a different place. While the hotel's location is pretty convenient -- walking distance to downtown/union square -- the place was just gross. Bedding and floors were stained... there was someone's hair stuck to the towels... the remote controlled t.v. had no remote... etc. Do not stay here unless you have to! There was no charm to this place whatsoever, just convenience and a low price tag ($85/night -- included parking and local phone calls). You're better off finding a funky B&B for that price."
