Crustacean Restaurant

San Francisco Seafood Restaurant Review

San Francisco's seafood restaurant opinions...

Crustacean serves Euro-Asian cuisine with an emphasis on seafood in a uniquely decorated setting with calm and classy ambiance. The interior is furnished with a combination of soothing colors, high ceilings, big open windows, lush greenery, and Oriental hanging lamps. The unusual decorations combined with the multi-tiered, angular layout of the restaurant makes you feel a bit like you’re in a foreign country. The ambiance is calm and quiet

While the service is very quick, the waiters are a bit overbearing and make the dining experience slightly uncomfortable. However, they are friendly and able to recommend different items off the menu, the food is served very quickly, and you will probably be seated immediately.

While Crustacean is a classy restaurant, it is not in the nicest neighborhood; it is surrounded by cheesy-looking bars and run-down buildings. However, once inside, you forget about the neighborhood and can enjoy yourself and the classy décor and ambience. Valet parking is available out front, and there are many parking garages nearby along with street parking.

Crustacean is great for all kinds of groups, from families to friends to a romantic night out. The many different angles that make up the interior design create different areas and sections of the restaurant, making Crustacean, which is a very large restaurant, seem smaller and more intimate. Wear nice clothes, but jeans are fine.

Crustacean is expensive compared to the other places in the neighborhood that surrounds it, but by itself it is not too pricey. The food at Crustacean is presented in a very simplistic manner, and each dish has a unique flavor. The food is not greasy, and the chef utilizes many surprising ingredients (for example, they put mint in the spring rolls). Recommended items off the menu:

SMALL PLATES

  • Crab Puffs ($9.95)
  • Jumbo Prawn Wontons ($10.25)
  • Lobster Roll ($10.95)

LARGE PLATES

  • Royal Tiger Prawns (Quoted Price)
  • An’s Garlic Noodles ($9.50)
  • Roast Crab (Quoted Price)
  • Wok Egg Noodle (14.50)
  • Broiled “Catch of the Day” ($17.95)
  • The Drunken Crab (Quoted Price)
  • Ginger Lobster with Angel Hair Pasta (Quoted Price)
  • Saigon Beef ($18.95)

Overall, Crustacean serves good Asian food in a classy atmosphere. If you are just looking for good Asian cuisine, try looking in the heart of Chinatown, where it will be cheaper and probably just as good (maybe greasier though). But if you are looking for good food and a nice night out, it’s a great place to go.
