Tradition, style, elegance.... The St. Francis offers everything an SF visitor can want -- especially if shopping is on your mind. Just blocks from some of SF's best stores and restaurants, the St. Francis offers timeless style and service. The location is perfect for shopping, theater, and dining. The hotel offers a wonderful style that will bring you back to SF of many years ago. However, the hotel is in excellent shape with impeccable service.

The hotel was built in 1904 and offers afternoon tea near the main entrance in the beautiful Compass Rose Lounge (entrance pictured at left in photo below). The elegant lounge has been incredibly restored with wood-paneled walls, crystal lamps, and fluted columns.

Service, location and a pretty fair price make the St. Francis an excellent upper price range value. While hotel prices fluctuate rapidly, for June 15-22, 2006, prices quoted ranged from $350-$450 with a median price quote of $400. The hotel is located conveniently to Financial District meetings and conventions, include Moscone Convention Center and Yerba Buena Gardens. Other reviews of this hotel note the rare "4 Diamond" luxury award from AAA.

The Elegant Lobbies Lead to Comfortable Rooms and Classic Dining

Marsha writes, "We spent 6 nights at the Westin St Francis hotel during the recent JAVAOne Conference. The St Francis was very clean; the rooms & bathrooms spacious; and the staff friendly and efficient. My husband and I were traveling with our two daughters (3 years and 8 months) and the staff was very welcoming to them as well. We all enjoyed "blasting" (as our three year old put it) up to our room on the renowned elevators. Corny as it may sound, I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel history channel. Our baby was provided with a darling, spotlessly clean crib to sleep in at no extra charge. Also, we requested a refrigerator and it appeared almost instantly! We had a very nice view of the city. The only negative aspect of our stay was the price of dining on site including $45 room service breakfast and $3 restaurant juice. We found that nearby Max's on Geary was reasonably priced, with a great selection of good food and well within walking distance. Again, the room was large, clean and well-appointed. We felt safe. And, those are THE most important things."

Saint Francis Restaurant and Spa

Andy writes, "Been staying here since I was a kid in the 1960's. The staff is excellent and the history is authentic. A little pricey but worth the cost for the excellent location. Convenient and perfect at Christmas time for shopping. Suites are all different and very nice."

Joe writes, "The hotel employees were not the friendlist. The conceirages' were very rushed and did wnat to spend the time to help us out with anything. The parking-$57.00 A DAY is outrageuos. Overall the hotel is very stuffy. We did not like anything about the Westin."

Ashley Nichols writes, "We really enjoyed the Westin's rooms. This hotel is right at the center of Union Square and really convenient to Macy's and Nordstrom's. We did a ton of shopping, and loved the hotel's historic feel. The rooms were good size and the furnishings were all remodeled. A great choice!!!"

Smith says, "After a LONG day shopping around Union Square me and my girlfriends would have crashed anywhere. To our surprise, we were going to be staying at one of the nicest hotels in the city. The room was great - very clean, very light, and plenty of space to stretch out. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to San Francisco."

Leslie says, "I love this hotel. We've booked rooms in both the newish tower and the older main building. Each style has its charms.We were there the night it was announced troops were being sent to the Middle East. Union Square and surrounds were overflowing with people screaming in protest. After catching ourselves looking out from such splendor, we grabbed our raincoats and went out to join the crowds."
